This is Don, your Harvard lawyer coming at you again.
Do you know how many points are on your driver’s license?
The Michigan Secretary-of-State adds points to your driver’s license if:
- you are guilty of a traffic violation, such as speeding, failing to merge, etc., or
- you commit a criminal offense involving a motor vehicle, such as drunk driving.
I represent represent clients in all of Michigan’s 83 counties; I can help you understand how many points will added to your driver’s license.
Some of the areas where we can help you include:
- Reckless Driving
- OWI, DUI, or any drunk-driving related offense
- Open-Alcohol-Container Violations
- Leaving the Scene of an Accident
- Manslaughter
- Underage Transportation of Alcohol
How do you get points on your license? Well, for example, you get
- 2 points – for driving 10 miles over the speed limit, refusing a PBT, or driving with an open container of alcohol
- 3 points – for a bunch of stuff, most commonly for speeding 11-15 mph over the limit
- 4 points – for example, being convicted of OWVI or driving 16 mph over the speed limit
- 6 points – for serious charges, such as DUI, refusing a chemical test, fleeing police, etc.
When you reach 12 points, the SOS will reexamine, and may suspend, your driver’s license
